ORLANDO, FL – A South Florida woman, identified only as K.A., met a horrific end after being carjacked and kidnapped on April 11, 2024. Now, four men are facing the ultimate consequences for their alleged roles in her death. Jordanish Torres Garcia (28, Orlando), Kevin Ocasio Justiniano (27, Orlando), Giovany Crespo Hernandez (27, Orlando), and Dereck Alexis Rodriguez Bonilla (21, Orlando) have been indicted on federal charges that could land them in prison for life… or on death row.
According to the indictment unsealed today by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg, the quartet allegedly aided and abetted each other in the carjacking and kidnapping of K.A., events that directly resulted in her death. The charges are stark: carjacking resulting in death, kidnapping resulting in death, and use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence – all contributing to the tragic loss of life. The indictment specifically alleges they aided and abetted each other in using a firearm during the commission of the carjacking, escalating the severity of the crime.
If convicted on all counts, Torres Garcia, Ocasio Justiniano, Crespo Hernandez, and Rodriguez Bonilla each face a minimum mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. However, the grand jury has also left the door open for the death penalty, a grim possibility given the brutality of the alleged crime. This isn’t a simple robbery gone wrong; it’s a calculated act of violence that robbed a woman of her life and shattered her family.
The investigation into K.A.’s death was a multi-agency effort. The Federal Bureau of Investigation took the lead, with crucial support from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. They were also aided by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, St. Cloud Police Department, United States Postal Inspection Service, and the United States Marshal Service. The sheer number of agencies involved speaks to the complexity of the case and the resources dedicated to bringing these men to justice.
Assistant United States Attorneys Stephanie McNeff and Dana Hill will prosecute the case, tasked with proving the defendants’ guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. It’s important to remember that an indictment is merely a formal accusation. Each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, the evidence presented to the grand jury clearly signaled enough probable cause to move forward with this serious prosecution.
This case falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. PSN focuses on fostering trust within communities, supporting local organizations, prioritizing strategic enforcement, and meticulously measuring results. The Department launched a strengthened PSN strategy in 2021, and this case exemplifies the program’s commitment to holding violent offenders accountable and making neighborhoods safer.
