Threats at Oregon State University
Christopher Adam Strahan, 22, a resident of Corvallis, Oregon, has been indicted for threatening a campus shooting at Oregon State University (OSU).
According to law enforcement, Strahan, a former OSU student, sent a series of threatening tweets on February 27, 2018, stating he would shoot his classmates. He is now facing a single count of making threatening communications in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 875.
Strahan initially appeared in federal court on March 27, 2018, where he was detained as a flight risk and danger to the community due to his actions. His arraignment is scheduled for June 27, 2018, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jolie A. Russo.
It is essential to note that an indictment is only an accusation of a crime, and Strahan is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If you witness imminent threats of violence in any form, whether online or otherwise, call 9-1-1 immediately. While the investigation is ongoing, it is essential to remember that everyone has the right to feel safe and secure on campus. The community’s support and cooperation are crucial in addressing such threats and maintaining a safe environment.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of online safety and the potential consequences of making threatening statements. It is crucial to prioritize responsible communication and avoid spreading fear and anxiety through social media or other channels.
