September 10, 1933, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – In a daring bid to spring notorious outlaw Harvey Bailey, prison break expert and machine gunner, from his county jail cell, authorities have thwarted the attempt, upping the ante on surveillance. Bailey’s counsel, James H. Mathers, made a last-ditch effort to ease the stringency of the jail’s security measures, but U.S. District Judge Edgar S. Vaught refused to budge, citing recent suspicious activity near the jail.
