Ovino Harris, ATM Machine Theft, Georgia 2015

ATLANTA – In a brazen attempt to steal an ATM machine, Ovino Harris, 35, of Atlanta, Georgia, and his group of four accomplices threatened to shoot a hotel clerk at the Wellesley Inn Atlanta Airport Hotel on December 4, 2013.

The group, known as the ‘Green Team,’ operated out of the Pittsburgh area of Atlanta and engaged in various criminal activities, including the theft of ATM machines from local businesses.

According to U.S. Attorney John Horn, the group frequently broke into closed businesses, attaching chains or ropes to the ATM machine while attaching the other end to a van or truck, and pulling the ATM machine from the store.

On December 4, 2013, Harris and his accomplices attempted to steal the ATM machine from within the hotel lobby by threatening to shoot the hotel clerk. Law enforcement was called to the area, and the men fled before they could be apprehended.

Harris, believed to be the leader of the Green Team, was arrested and arraigned on July 9, 2014. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

Ovino Harris was convicted on December 15, 2015, after pleading guilty to the charges. All of Harris’ co-defendants have also pled guilty in this matter, with five of them already sentenced and one additional co-defendant awaiting sentencing.

The case was investigated by the Atlanta Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorneys Matthew S Carrico and Kim S. Dammers prosecuting the case.
