Pakistani Man Jailed for Interstate Stalking
A 47-year-old Pakistani citizen has been sentenced to 48 months in prison for violating the terms of his no-contact order and continuing to harass his victims through phone calls, voicemails, and social media messages.
Mohammad Asif Waziri was handed down the sentence by Senior U.S. District Judge Charles C. Lovell for his crimes, which included stalking four victims in Oregon between June and September 2017. Waziri’s actions were a brazen disregard for the law, and his victims deserve justice.
According to court documents, Waziri was served with a no-contact order and warned by law enforcement not to continue his harassment of the victims, but he refused to listen. The defendant’s pattern of behavior included leaving packages and sending threatening messages, causing his victims undue stress and anxiety.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Bartleson and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oregon State Police. The sentence is a wake-up call for anyone who thinks they can ignore the law and continue to harass others.
Waziri will also face three years of supervised release after his prison term, a stark reminder that his crimes will not be forgotten. He will also be required to pay $900.00 in restitution to his victims.
The sentence is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to bring Waziri to justice. It’s a reminder that those who commit crimes will be held accountable, no matter where they come from or how they try to hide.
In a statement, Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Bartleson said, ‘This sentence is a victory for the victims who suffered at the hands of Waziri. His actions were unacceptable, and it’s a relief to see him held accountable for his crimes.’
Senior U.S. District Judge Charles C. Lovell’s sentence sends a clear message: if you commit crimes and ignore the law, you will face the consequences. Waziri’s case is a stark reminder of the importance of respecting the law and the rights of others.
