Palm Beach Doc Pleads Guilty to $6 Mil Tax Fraud

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Palm Beach County resident and licensed gastroenterologist Krishna Tripuraneni, 56, has entered a guilty plea for systematically underreporting his income on corporate and personal tax returns, resulting in a staggering $6 million in lost tax revenue over four years. The investigation, spearheaded by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), revealed that Tripuraneni manipulated funds from his businesses, Palm Beach Gastroenterology Consultants LLC (PBGC) and Palm Beach Surgery Center (PBSC), to fund personal expenses including a luxury home, mortgage payments, and private school tuition.

Tripuraneni, who also served as the Manager and Registered Agent for PB Anesthesia Associates, LLC (PBA), used fraudulent profit and loss statements to misrepresent his income on corporate and individual tax returns. The false reporting included inflating business expenses and failing to disclose the personal use of corporate funds, leading to significant underestimation of his taxable income.

According to U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer, ‘An individual cannot avoid his income tax obligations by creative labeling. Today’s plea demonstrates our commitment to every American taxpayer that we will identify and prosecute those who use corporations as shields to evade the payment of personal income taxes.’ Tripuraneni faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $500,000 for his crimes.

IRS-CI Special Agent in Charge Kelly R. Jackson emphasized, ‘As we approach tax filing season, those Americans who file accurate, honest and timely returns can be assured that the government will hold accountable those who don’t. IRS Criminal Investigation is committed to investigating individuals who use their corporations as personal piggy banks to live an untaxed lavish lifestyle and evade their corporate and personal income taxes. We will remain diligent in enforcing the laws to protect the integrity of our tax system.’

The false returns, spanning from 2004 to 2008, resulted in a total underreported income of $18,128,066, leading to an additional tax liability of $6,383,977. Tripuraneni’s actions were not only financially damaging but also demonstrate a flagrant disregard for the law and his responsibilities as a licensed physician.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the government’s dedication to ensuring that all taxpayers comply with their obligations, regardless of their occupation or status.
