Park Geun-hye, the former President of South Korea, has been sentenced to life in prison on charges of corruption and bribery. The sentencing took place on August 25, 2021 at the Seoul Central District Court.
The charges against Park Geun-hye include abuse of power, bribery, and coercion. She was found guilty of accepting millions of dollars in bribes from Samsung and SK Group in exchange for favors and business deals.
The sentencing comes after a lengthy trial that began in April 2018. Park Geun-hye was impeached in December 2016 and removed from office.
According to the court, Park Geun-hye’s actions caused significant damage to the South Korean economy and society. The court also stated that she had abused her power as President to benefit herself and her associates.
