WASHINGTON, D.C. – A seemingly petty dispute over a parking ticket exploded into a brazen robbery on June 25th, leading to the indictment of Maylin Carranza Garcia, 29, of Annandale, Virginia. Garcia now faces felony charges of robbery and retaliating against a government official, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
The incident unfolded at approximately 3:07 p.m. at 2526 L Street Northwest. A Parking Enforcement Officer was finishing up issuing a citation to a vehicle illegally parked in a no-parking zone when confronted by Carranza Garcia, the driver’s sister. What began as a verbal argument quickly escalated, culminating in Garcia allegedly snatching the officer’s parking enforcement device and making a run for it.
“This wasn’t some impulsive act,” stated a source within the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), speaking on condition of anonymity. “She deliberately targeted a public servant doing their job. That adds a serious layer to this offense.” Garcia didn’t get far, ditching the stolen device on the side of the road in a futile attempt to conceal her actions.
The quick response of the MPD led to Carranza Garcia’s arrest on June 26th, and the recovery of the stolen parking enforcement device. Chief Pamela Smith of the MPD joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing the indictment, signaling the department’s commitment to protecting its officers from such attacks.
A grand jury formally indicted Carranza Garcia on July 16, 2025. She is currently awaiting arraignment, scheduled for July 29, 2025. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kadian Carter is prosecuting the case. The government alleges that Garcia’s actions constituted both a robbery and a direct attempt to obstruct a government official’s duties.
It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is not a conviction. Maylin Carranza Garcia, like all defendants, is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. However, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing risks faced by those who enforce the law, even in seemingly minor situations.
