Paroled Killer Busted

⏱ 2 min read

Marvin Mutch, a 69-year-old paroled murderer from Vallejo, California, has pleaded guilty to possessing tens of thousands of images of child sex abuse material and being a felon in possession of ammunition. In May 2025, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Mutch’s residence, where they found the disturbing images on various electronic devices and a ‘ghost gun’ with eight rounds of ammunition in his vehicle. Mutch’s dark past includes a 1975 conviction for murdering a 13-year-old girl, for which he served approximately 40 years in prison before being paroled in 2016.

The investigation, conducted by the Solano County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the FBI Violent Crime Task Force and the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, led to Mutch’s guilty plea. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the child sex abuse material conviction, and up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Mutch’s case is a disturbing reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who have previously committed heinous crimes. His guilty plea is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies working to protect the community from such predators.

Mutch is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dena Coggins on August 28, 2026. The actual sentence will be determined at the discretion of the court, taking into account applicable statutory factors and the federal Sentencing Guidelines.
