A brazen bank robbery in Overland Park, Kansas, has landed a local man in the crosshairs of federal authorities. Paul A Sundquist, 29, of Louisburg, Kan., was charged in federal court with robbing the Stanley Bank on Sept. 19, 2016.
According to the allegations, Sundquist showed a clerk a note demanding money before receiving the cash and fleeing the bank. A bystander managed to get a partial tag number on Sundquist’s pickup truck, which proved to be a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation.
However, Sundquist’s attempt to evade capture was short-lived. He was monitoring police radio traffic on his cell phone and, when he heard police had his tag number, he called 911 and surrendered.
The FBI and the Overland Park Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead is prosecuting the charges against Sundquist.
If convicted, Sundquist faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
The case serves as a reminder that bank robberies are serious crimes that carry severe penalties. In this case, the defendant showed a blatant disregard for the law and put the lives of innocent people at risk.
Sundquist is currently facing the consequences of his actions, and it will be up to a jury to determine his guilt or innocence.
