A Shreveport man has been sentenced to over 11 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution ring.
Paul Matthew Garza, 35, was sentenced to 135 months in prison for his crimes, which include possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
The charges stem from a traffic stop on May 25, 2016, near the Louisiana-Texas border in Caddo Parish, where authorities found 408 grams of methamphetamine and 142.73 grams of Xanax bars in Garza’s vehicle.
Additional methamphetamine and Xanax were found in his home, along with a Ruger LCP .380 semi-automatic handgun, digital scales, and $17,400 in cash.
The DEA and the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Tennille M. Gilreath prosecuting the case.
The case against Garza began with a guilty plea on September 20, 2016, and he was sentenced by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr.
Garza will also serve five years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
The harsh penalties handed down to Garza demonstrate the seriousness with which the justice system views methamphetamine distribution and related crimes.
