Paul New, Pipe-Bombings, California 2023

A Fresno man has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for a series of devastating pipe-bombings that shook the city of Fresno, California.

Paul New, 57, was sentenced to three years in prison for conspiracy to destroy property and malicious destruction by means of an explosive device, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

Between November 2022 and February 2023, New committed a series of pipe-bombings on unoccupied vehicles and property in Fresno.

The bombings damaged vehicles belonging to two auto-related businesses on Clinton Avenue. On February 19, 2023, a bomb heavily damaged a vehicle used by a home health care business on Fallbrook Avenue.

In a separate case, co-defendant Scott Eric Anderson was sentenced to three years in prison on October 9, 2024, for their involvement in the pipe-bombings.

The case was the product of an investigation by the Fresno Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael G. Tierney prosecuted the case, bringing New to justice for his crimes.
