PEEVER, SD – David Seaboy, Sr., 57, of Peever, South Dakota, will spend the next decade behind bars after being sentenced for a horrific act of abuse. U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann delivered the sentence on June 3, 2019, bringing a measure of justice to a case dating back over a decade.
Seaboy was handed a 120-month federal prison term, followed by a decade of supervised release. The sentence reflects the gravity of his crime: knowingly engaging in, and attempting to engage in, sexual contact with a person who had not yet reached the age of 12. Beyond imprisonment, Seaboy was ordered to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund – a paltry sum considering the lasting damage inflicted.
Court documents paint a disturbing picture of Seaboy’s intent. Prosecutors established that his actions were not merely sexual, but deliberately aimed to abuse, humiliate, harass, and degrade the victim, all to satisfy his own twisted desires. The details, while shielded to protect the victim, are undeniably sickening and demonstrate a clear pattern of predatory behavior.
The investigation, a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe’s Law Enforcement, painstakingly pieced together the evidence necessary to secure a conviction. The involvement of tribal law enforcement highlights the importance of interagency cooperation in tackling crimes that impact vulnerable communities.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri skillfully prosecuted the case, presenting irrefutable evidence that led to Seaboy’s conviction and subsequent sentencing. The Grimy Times applauds the dedication of these law enforcement professionals in bringing this predator to justice, however belatedly.
Following the sentencing, Seaboy was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, ending his freedom and beginning a long period of accountability. While no sentence can truly repair the harm caused, this outcome sends a clear message: those who prey on children will be pursued and punished to the fullest extent of the law. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on similar instances of abuse across the nation.
