CRIME SCENE
Peter J. Luchansky, a 60-year-old Canfield man, has been charged with mail fraud in connection with a scheme that defrauded a North Canton medical practice out of nearly $2.5 million.
Luchansky, who was employed as an information technology manager with the medical practice, used two Ohio companies he formed in 2005 to bill the practice for computer equipment and services. However, Luchansky fabricated the invoices and submitted them to the practice for payment, resulting in the loss of $2,486,028.
The scheme, which lasted from 2005 until July 2014, was uncovered through an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Canton Office. Luchansky has agreed to forfeit certain property obtained as a result of the false and fraudulent invoices, including cash, jewelry, a 2009 Corvette, a 2007 Lexus, a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle, and 108 firearms.
Luchansky has also submitted funds totaling over $2 million to be used as restitution to the victims in this case. If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including his prior criminal records, his role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Linda H. Barr. Luchansky has agreed to forfeit certain property obtained as a result of the false and fraudulent invoices, including cash, jewelry, a 2009 Corvette, a 2007 Lexus, a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle, and 108 firearms.
An information is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
