US Attorney Peter Neronha Appointed to AG’s Advisory Committee

US Attorney Peter F. Neronha of Rhode Island has been appointed to the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee (AGAC), effective immediately. Neronha will fill the seat vacated by former US Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven Dettelbach, who resigned on February 5.

Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch announced the appointment, stating, “The Attorney General’s Advisory Committee plays a crucial role in shaping the Justice Department’s approach to fighting crime, countering national security threats and securing equal justice under the law and I am pleased to welcome two new members to its ranks.”

Neronha was nominated by President Barack Obama on July 31, 2009, and confirmed by the US Senate on September 15, 2009, as the US Attorney for the District of Rhode Island. In 2002, Neronha joined the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island. As an Assistant US Attorney, he prosecuted criminal cases involving political corruption, white collar crime, drug and firearm offenses.

Neronha previously served on the AGAC during 2009-2011. He has spent his career tackling some of the most high-profile and difficult challenges, from political corruption and terrorism to gun violence and organized crime.

The AGAC was created in 1973 to serve as the voice of the US Attorneys and to advise the attorney general on policy, management and operational issues impacting the offices of the US Attorneys.

Neronha will join US Attorney John Huber of Utah, who was also appointed to the AGAC. Huber will fill the seat vacated by former US Attorney for the District of Kansas, Barry Grissom, who resigned on April 15.

Neronha’s appointment marks a significant development in the Justice Department’s efforts to combat crime and promote public safety. As a member of the AGAC, he will play a key role in shaping the department’s policies and strategies.
