Phenix City Drug Kingpin Given 35-Year Sentence

Montgomery, Alabama — In a resounding victory against drug trafficking in Phenix City, Shedrick D. Hollis, 40, was handed a 35-year sentence for his involvement in the illegal drug trade and weapons possession.

Hollis faced justice after being convicted on March 14, 2013, of distributing cocaine powder, crack cocaine, BZP, and marijuana, along with possessing firearms to further his criminal activities. United States District Judge W. Keith Watkins sentenced him to 30 years for the drug charges, adding an additional five years for the firearms possession.

The story began in February 2011 when the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force was called in to apprehend Hollis for violating his parole from Georgia. Hollis was found hiding in a rented vehicle at a Phenix City residence. Upon arrest, authorities conducted a protective sweep and discovered firearms and drugs, including a large quantity of marijuana and cocaine powder.

“This sentence underscores our commitment to removing drug dealers from our communities,” stated U.S. Attorney George L. Beck, Jr. “Combining drug dealing with firearms poses an extreme threat, and we will continue to combat this dangerous combination.”

Assistant Special Agent in Charge Clay Morris of the DEA emphasized the collaborative efforts that led to Hollis’s capture, highlighting the cooperation between various law enforcement agencies. The investigation was a joint effort by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Metro Narcotics Task Force, Russell County Sheriff’s Department, Phenix City Police, and the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Prosecutors Susan R. Redmond and Jared Morris led the prosecution against Hollis. For further information, contact Clark Morris at usaalm.press@usdoj.gov or (334) 551-1755.
