Piedmont Man Sentenced to 11 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A Piedmont man was sentenced to over a decade in federal prison after pleading guilty to a methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy that netted thousands of dollars in illicit proceeds.

According to federal prosecutors, Logan Holmes, 21, of Piedmont, was a source of supply for kilograms of methamphetamine to co-conspirators in the case. What’s more, Holmes was on home detention at the time of the conspiracy for a state conviction of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

When state officers executed arrest and search warrants at Holmes’ residence, they located methamphetamine and five guns, two of which were stolen. The search warrant at Holmes’ residence also turned up evidence of Holmes’ involvement in the conspiracy, further implicating him in the trafficking ring.

Co-defendant Christian Cruz, 28, of Enoree, was also sentenced to over eight years in federal prison after pleading guilty to the same conspiracy. Evidence presented in court showed that Cruz was a source of supply for kilograms of cocaine to co-conspirators in the case.

Cruz’s home search turned up five guns, including an unregistered short barrel rifle. United States District Judge Donald C. Coggins handed down the sentences, ordering Holmes to serve 135 months in prison, followed by a five-year term of court-ordered supervision. Cruz was sentenced to 98 months imprisonment, to be followed by a four-year term of supervision.

The prosecution of Holmes and Cruz is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which identifies and dismantles high-level drug traffickers and their networks. The OCDETF program leverages the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to disrupt and dismantle these networks. Additional information about the OCDETF Program can be found at https://www.justice.gov/OCDETF.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit, and Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jamie Schoen is prosecuting the case.
