The Grimy Times has learned that Candace Hill, a 43-year-old woman from Pine Ridge, South Dakota, has been indicted for Larceny. On August 26, 2014, a federal grand jury handed down the indictment, which alleges that Hill stole cash and funds from Pinky’s Store in Manderson between September and December 2013.
According to the indictment, Hill is accused of stealing a significant amount of cash and funds from the convenience store. The investigation, which is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, has revealed a pattern of theft that occurred over several months.
Candace Hill appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on September 9, 2014, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 5 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The charge is merely an accusation, and Hill is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman is prosecuting the case, and Hill was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has been set for November 18, 2014.
The investigation into Hill’s alleged crimes has been ongoing for several months, and it appears that the accused is facing serious charges. The Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety have been working together to bring Hill to justice.
Candace Hill’s alleged actions have had a significant impact on the community, and the people of Pine Ridge are eager to see justice served. The trial is set to begin on November 18, 2014, and the Grimy Times will provide updates on the case as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, the community is left to wonder how someone could allegedly steal from a convenience store, leaving the owner and customers to suffer the consequences.
