Pittsburgh Felon Caught with Illegal Gun

A 25-year-old Pittsburgh resident has been charged with violating federal firearms laws after being caught with an illegal pistol and ammunition.

Deondre Steave, 25, pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of violating federal firearms laws, according to United States Attorney Scott W. Brady.

Steave’s guilty plea was entered before United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon, who is set to sentence him on February 5, 2019. The law provides for a total sentence of not more than 10 years in prison, a fine of not more than $250,000, or both.

Steave was previously convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year, a felony conviction for Conspiracy to Possess with the Intent to Distribute 100 Grams or More of Heroin and Escaping from Federal Custody.

According to the court, on or about September 28, 2017, Steave knowingly and unlawfully possessed a Kahr CW .40 caliber pistol and ammunition, which is prohibited under federal law.

The investigation that led to Steave’s prosecution was conducted by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer.
