WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – Tomez Faulkner, a 38-year-old man from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has finally owned up to his transgressions, admitting to the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.
The grim reality unfolded when Ohio County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a routine check on a driver who had pulled over on the shoulder of Interstate 70 with their hazard lights blinking. The deputies came across Faulkner inside the vehicle, armed with a 9mm pistol.
But there’s more to this story than just an illegal gun. Faulkner has been barred from owning firearms due to his prior convictions for drug and assault-related offenses.
This isn’t Faulkner’s first brush with the law. The gravity of his situation is evident as he now faces a staggering sentence of up to 15 years in federal prison.
The federal district court judge overseeing the case will decide on any sentence after meticulously considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Assistant U.S. Attorney Clayton Reid is leading the prosecution for the government, determined to see justice served.
The investigation into Faulkner’s crime was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office. U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided over the arraignment, ensuring due process was followed.
