Pittsburgh Man Charged with Fentanyl and Cocaine Trafficking

Newark, N.J. – A grim federal indictment has landed on the doorstep of Kenswick Austin, a 45-year-old Pittsburgh native, charging him with the heinous act of distributing fentanyl and cocaine in New Jersey.

Austin, who was previously charged on March 31, 2020, stands accused of arranging the shipment of a package containing over 400 grams of fentanyl and at least 500 grams of cocaine to the Garden State. According to U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito, Austin’s alleged scheme came to light when he met with several individuals to take possession of the package, which was intercepted by law enforcement.

The search revealed a kilogram each of fentanyl and cocaine, substances that have been linked to countless overdoses across the country. The charges against Austin carry severe penalties: 10 years to life for the fentanyl charge and five to 40 years for the cocaine offense.

Carpenito commended the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, and local law enforcement agencies for their role in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah A. Sulkowski will be leading the prosecution on behalf of the government.

As the charges and allegations against Austin are mere accusations, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
