Douglas Ward Jr., Theft of Government Property, Pennsylvania 2010

A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to three years of probation, restitution of $27,926 and 50 hours of community service for stealing government benefits, according to federal court records.

Douglas Ward, Jr., 37, was convicted of theft of government property in federal court. United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer imposed the sentence on Ward.

Between December 2006 and July 2010, Ward converted to his own use over $27,926 in Supplemental Security Income Benefits, according to information presented to the court.

Assistant United States Attorney Robert S. Cessar prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton commended the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General, Special Agent Kenneth Grubb, for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Ward.

Ward was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment as part of his sentence.

The case against Ward was the result of an investigation by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General. The agency’s Special Agent Kenneth Grubb led the investigation.

The successful prosecution of Ward serves as a reminder that those who abuse the system will be held accountable, according to U.S. Attorney Hickton.
