Pittsburgh Teen Nyzhon N. Bell Charged in WV Heroin, Gun Case

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 19-year-old Pittsburgh man is facing federal charges after being indicted on heroin distribution and firearm counts tied to a drug operation in Harrison County. Nyzhon N. Bell was named in a grand jury indictment unsealed today, marking the latest blow in a regional crackdown on opioid trafficking.

Bell allegedly distributed heroin in May 2016, moving the deadly drug across state lines into West Virginia, a state ravaged by the overdose epidemic. Federal prosecutors say the operation wasn’t just about supply — it was armed. Authorities allege Bell possessed a semi-automatic pistol, which he used to protect and advance his drug enterprise.

He now stands charged with one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin” and one count of “Possession of Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking Crime.” If convicted, Bell faces up to twenty years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000 on the drug charge, and up to five additional years behind bars plus a $250,000 fine for the firearm count.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Traci M. Cook, who emphasized the federal government’s commitment to dismantling drug networks that arm themselves. “When drugs and guns mix, communities pay the price,” said a DOJ spokesperson. “We’re putting traffickers on notice.”

Investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, alongside the Greater Harrison County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force — a HIDTA-funded initiative targeting high-impact narcotics operations. Sources indicate surveillance, informant testimony, and ballistic evidence contributed to the indictment.

An indictment is merely an accusation. Nyzhon N. Bell is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. His initial appearance and arraignment are scheduled for next week in the Northern District of West Virginia.
