SHERMAN, Texas – The grimy details of a drug trafficking conspiracy were sealed as Holly Candice Lopez and Ricardo Ruiz were sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a massive methamphetamine ring that terrorized the Eastern District of Texas.
Holly Candice Lopez, 28, of Pleasant Grove, was handed a life sentence by U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant, III, on August 27, 2025. Her husband, Ricardo Ruiz, 30, also from Pleasant Grove, received a staggering 376 months in federal prison for the same charges.
According to court documents, Lopez and Ruiz were at the helm of an organization distributing kilogram quantities of heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine. The couple utilized no less than five stash houses in the area to store and distribute illegal narcotics that they had imported from Mexico.
Their arrest is a victory for Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations while safeguarding communities from violent crime. This operation leverages the full resources of the Department of Justice through its OCDETFs and Project Safe Neighborhood.
This case was meticulously investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Internal Revenue Service, and local police departments from Dallas to Denton County. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul B. Morris prosecuted the couple with relentless vigor.
The sentencing of Lopez and Ruiz sends a chilling message to those who would profit from the illegal drug trade. Their sentences underscore the government’s commitment to eradicating these criminal networks that threaten the safety and well-being of innocent citizens.
