South Antelope woman, Aprielle Poitra, was charged with assault after allegedly using a knife to harm another individual on March 18, 2016. The assault resulted in substantial bodily injury.
According to the indictment, Poitra, 20, is accused of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Substantial Bodily Injury. She was indicted on April 13, 2016, and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on May 9, 2016. Poitra entered a plea of not guilty to the indictment.
The maximum penalty for a conviction of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon is up to 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, along with three years of supervised release and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. For a conviction of Assault Resulting in Substantial Bodily Injury, the maximum penalty is up to 5 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, along with three years of supervised release and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Additionally, restitution may be ordered.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case. Poitra was released on bond pending trial, but a trial date has not been set.
The charge is merely an accusation, and Poitra is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The alleged assault occurred on March 18, 2016, when it is claimed Poitra used a knife to harm the victim, causing substantial bodily injury.
