Pomani Fails to Register as Sex Offender

A Fort Thompson, South Dakota, man has been sentenced to 30 months in custody for failing to register as a sex offender, according to the United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota.

Patrick Scott Pomani, 33, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on March 31, 2014, after pleading guilty to the charge on January 22, 2014.

Pomani was previously convicted of a sex offense in federal court and is required by law to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

Between April 28, 2013, and July 16, 2013, Pomani failed to register as a sex offender, a requirement that stems from his previous conviction.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuting the case.

Pomani was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing hearing.

As part of his sentence, Pomani will also serve 5 years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
