BEAUMONT, Texas – In a gritty turn of events, Gary Lynn Carrington Sr., a 40-year-old from Port Arthur, Texas, has been locked away for federal firearms violations. The Department of Justice’s Eastern District of Texas office announced the sentence.
Carrington, who pleaded guilty on December 12, 2012, is set to serve 57 months in federal prison after being caught with a firearm as a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Marcia Crone.
The crime spree began when Carrington sold crack cocaine at his Port Arthur residence on August 23, 2012. During the subsequent search, authorities uncovered a loaded revolver, a shotgun also loaded, $8,628 in cash, drug paraphernalia, and a measuring cup filled with cocaine. At the scene were Carrington and two others.
Further investigation revealed that Carrington was no stranger to law enforcement. He had previously been convicted of delivery of a controlled substance in 2007 and possession of a controlled substance in 1995 in Jefferson County. As a felon, he is legally barred from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.
This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods’ Operation Time Machine, a program targeting gun violence and illegal firearm possession. The initiative involves community members, organizations, and law enforcement agencies at all levels.
The ATF and the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force led the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Baylor Wortham handling the prosecution.
