Gift Card Thief Exposed
A devastating case of gift card theft has shaken the trust of Mandeville residents. Johnny Baham, a 53-year-old contract letter carrier, pleaded guilty to stealing the United States mail.
According to court documents, Baham, who was employed as a contract letter carrier, stole first-class mail containing two $75.00 Master Card gift cards from his mail route in December 2014.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite announced the guilty plea, praising the work of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Office of Inspector General, who led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba is in charge of the prosecution.
The shocking incident has left many wondering how someone in a position of trust could commit such a crime. Baham faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, followed by up to three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan has set sentencing for December 2, 2015. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the consequences of betraying the public’s trust.
The guilty plea is a significant blow to Baham’s reputation and a warning to others who would consider similar crimes. As the investigation continues, it is clear that accountability will be the ultimate goal.
With this guilty plea, Baham’s future is uncertain, but one thing is clear: justice will be served. The people of Mandeville can feel a sense of relief knowing that the perpetrator of this crime will face the consequences of their actions.
