A chilling network of online predators is actively targeting children, and federal investigators are scrambling to keep up. The Justice Department is sounding the alarm about a decentralized extremist subculture – dubbed “764” or “Nihilistic Violent Extremism” (NVE) – that’s using social media, gaming platforms, and apps to groom and radicalize kids, with some perpetrators exploiting them for sexual gratification.
The FBI is currently tracking over 450 individuals tied to these groups nationwide, with active investigations underway in the Central District of Illinois. Victims are overwhelmingly minors, with some as young as nine. It’s not just ideologues, either; some are drawn in by a twisted desire for online status or belonging.
This isn’t your typical extremist group. NVE preaches a hateful, chaotic worldview focused on the collapse of society. They glorify mass killers, share animal cruelty, and even encourage self-harm. The feds say these predators are methodical, carefully seeking out vulnerable kids online and building relationships before pushing their disturbing ideology.
The DOJ isn’t just talking, they’re actively investigating. But with more and more children stumbling into these online traps, law enforcement is urging parents, teachers and communities to be vigilant.
