Valentino Gonzalez, a 31-year-old prisoner, has pleaded guilty to intentionally assaulting two victims with a deadly weapon, announced U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst. Gonzalez is serving a sentence of more than 24 years in federal prison for conspiracy to murder, after being convicted in 2005.
In September 2017, Gonzalez lured another inmate into his cell, intending to physically harm him. When the victim fled, Gonzalez pursued him, armed with a shank. The victim sustained serious injuries after being repeatedly stabbed by Gonzalez. When a correctional officer attempted to intervene, Gonzalez stabbed the officer in the hand, causing them to suffer serious injuries as well.
Gonzalez’s actions led to a thorough investigation by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Special Investigative Section. His case will be sentenced by Judge Daniel P. Jordan III on November 9, 2018, where he faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison, followed by up to 3 years of supervised release, and a $500,000 fine.
The details of the case reveal a chilling display of violence within the prison system. Gonzalez’s actions demonstrate a complete disregard for the safety and well-being of those around him, and the consequences of his actions will be severe.
Gonzalez’s history of violence and his current sentence for conspiracy to murder paint a picture of a calculating and ruthless individual. His actions in 2017 were a stark reminder of the dangers that exist within our prison system.
As a society, we must take a closer look at the measures in place to prevent such violence from occurring. The case of Valentino Gonzalez serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing the safety and security of our prisons.
The people of Jackson, Mississippi, expect justice to be served in this case. With a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, Gonzalez will face the consequences of his actions, and it is our hope that this sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who might consider engaging in similar behavior.
