On a sweltering summer day in Washington D.C. on August 15th, 1930, the Prohibition Bureau officials hit back at the Board of Trade’s scathing report. The report, submitted to the National Crime Commission, had criticized the Federal agents working under the authority of the Police Department in the District. The Prohibition Bureau officials, however, were quick to defend their actions, pointing out that they had focused on transportation cases and that the majority of liquor law arrests were made by the Washington Police force.
