Jason Lee Pyles, a 44-year-old man from Barling, Arkansas, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for knowingly possessing a firearm after a felony conviction. Pyles pleaded guilty to the charge in November 2016 and was sentenced by the Honorable Chief Judge P.K. Holmes, III in the United States District Court in Fort Smith.
According to court records, Pyles was convicted in Sebastian County Circuit Court in May 1995 of Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, a class Y felony. This conviction prohibited him from possessing a firearm. However, on April 25, 2016, law enforcement officers found a .380 caliber pistol, a .22 caliber revolver, and a .38 caliber revolver in an unlocked rifle box in Pyles’ bedroom during a compliance check at his residence.
The compliance check was conducted by the Barling Police Department, assisted by Arkansas Probation and Parole. Pyles was not at home at the time of the check, but his mother showed the officers his bedroom, where the firearms were found. This discovery led to Pyles being indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2016.
