Tampa, FL – In a shocking display of brutality, Quentin Cephus, a 30-year-old Tampa resident, has been sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison for forcibly assaulting and inflicting bodily injury on a federal official.
On February 9, 2016, Cephus, a resident at the Hillsborough County Residential Re-entry Center, approached a U.S. Bureau of Prisons official who was conducting an audit at the facility. In a senseless act of violence, Cephus punched the official in the face with a closed fist and inflicted bodily injury on him. Moments later, he spat in the official’s face.
Cephus pleaded guilty to the charges on December 19, 2016. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kaitlin R. O’Donnell and Mandy Riedel.
The incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officials and the importance of maintaining a safe working environment. The Bureau of Prisons official was simply carrying out their duties when Cephus chose to violently assault them.
Cephus’s sentence is a consequence of his actions, and it serves as a reminder that violence against public officials will not be tolerated. As the judge handed down the sentence, it was clear that justice had been served.
