Rabih Kairouz, Anton Easter, Scott Gay, Corey Turnbull, Marijuana Conspiracy, Ohio 2017

Three U.S. Postal employees and a fourth man have been charged with stealing packages containing marijuana from the U.S. mail and selling the drugs. The indictment names Rabih Kairouz, 29, of Akron, Anton D. Easter, Jr., 26, of Akron, Scott Gay, Jr., 33, of Canton, and Corey Turnbull, 26, of Ravenna as defendants.

According to the indictment, Kairouz, Gay, and Turnbull worked for the U.S. Postal Service, with Kairouz and Turnbull serving as supervisors at the Five Points station in Akron and Gay as a manager at the North Hill station. The three Postal employees, along with Easter, intercepted suspected drug parcels at U.S. Post Offices in Akron, opened the parcels, removed the marijuana, and sold it to Easter between February and May 2017.

Kairouz was also accused of stealing a kilogram of methamphetamine from the mail, according to the indictment. If convicted, the defendants face a sentence to be determined by the court, taking into account factors such as their prior criminal record, role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violations.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Akron Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Henry F. DeBaggis and Teresa L. Riley.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The defendants are currently at large and have not been sentenced. The exact date of sentencing has not been announced. The case highlights the serious nature of mail theft and the consequences of committing such crimes.
