Rachel Paillet Steals Over $60K from Nursing Home Resident

New York Attorney General Letitia James has secured a conviction against Rachel Paillet, a nursing home aide at The Pearl Nursing Center of Rochester, for stealing over $60,000 from a resident. Paillet pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.

The investigation by the Office of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit revealed that Paillet made 220 withdrawals from the victim’s debit card between April and November 2023. She used the funds for personal expenses, including groceries, bills, and lottery tickets.

Attorney General James emphasized the importance of trust in nursing homes, stating, “Nursing home residents must be able to trust their caregivers.” Paillet faces a sentence of up to 60 days in jail concurrent with five years of probation and an order to pay restitution.

The stolen funds were primarily used for the victim’s nursing home care. The facility discovered the withdrawals when the resident’s payment was declined due to insufficient funds. MFCU detectives traced the withdrawals to Paillet, who had repeatedly accessed the card at various ATMs in the Rochester area.

Attorney General James has a strong record of protecting vulnerable populations in nursing homes, having secured significant settlements and reforms in several high-profile cases involving nursing home neglect and financial fraud. She encourages anyone with information about such crimes to file a confidential complaint online or call MFCU at (212) 417-5397.
