NEWARK, N.J. – A Union County, New Jersey, man, Kevin Jackson, 57, of Rahway, New Jersey, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for his role in a conspiracy that targeted residences belonging to Asian small business owners.
U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced the sentencing, which was imposed by U.S. District Judge Evelyn Padin in Newark federal court.
According to documents filed in the case and statements made in court, Jackson participated in a conspiracy to burglarize the residences of certain Asian small business owners living in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Delaware from December 2, 2016, to March 20, 2019.
During this time, Jackson and his co-conspirators stole large sums of money, valuable jewelry, and other items, transporting the stolen goods in interstate commerce, including to residences in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
As part of the sentence, Judge Padin also imposed three years of supervised release and ordered $294,586 in restitution.
The investigation leading to the sentencing was credited to the FBI Newark’s Transnational Organized Crime Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy in Newark.
U.S. Attorney Sellinger also thanked numerous law enforcement agencies, including the South Plainfield Police Department, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the New Jersey State Police, for their assistance in the investigation.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dong Joo Lee of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Cybercrime Unit in Newark.
