Two federal inmates, Ralph Hooper, 43, and Jordan Reid, 29, have been sentenced for their roles in possessing cellphones in the United States Penitentiary, Lewisburg (USP Lewisburg), Lewisburg, PA.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Hooper and Reid pleaded guilty to possessing cellphones on March 29, 2022, before U.S. Magistrate Judge William I. Arbuckle. Following their guilty pleas, Arbuckle sentenced both inmates.
Ralph Hooper was sentenced to 2 months’ imprisonment, which will run consecutive to his 128-month sentence for his participation in an interstate heroin and cocaine drug trafficking organization.
Jordan Reid received a 1-month prison sentence, which will run consecutive to his 75-month prison sentence for possessing a firearm as a felon and in furtherance of drug trafficking.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the cases. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Drew O. Inman and Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey W. MacArthur prosecuted the cases.
Federal law prohibits inmates from possessing cellphones due to the institutional security risks posed by their use. The investigation and prosecution of these cases demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring the safety of our prison system.
The cases against Hooper and Reid serve as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal law while incarcerated. Both inmates will serve their sentences consecutively, reflecting the severity of their crimes.
