Rameik Desen Anderson, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, North Carolina 2017

A Tarboro man has been sentenced to 96 months in prison for his role in a shooting that left a family fearing for their lives.

Rameik Desen Anderson, 23, was sentenced in federal court in Greenville on Thursday for possessing a firearm as a felon.

The charges stem from a January 4, 2017, shooting at a residence in Tarboro. Anderson was driving a vehicle with three passengers when he fired multiple rounds from a 9mm handgun at the home.

After fleeing the scene, Anderson was spotted running a red light and traveling at a high rate of speed by a Tarboro police officer. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but Anderson refused and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

Anderson lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch. He then jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, but was eventually apprehended and arrested after a search by a K-9 unit and several officers.

The three passengers in the vehicle were interviewed at the crash site and stated that Anderson was driving and that they were fleeing the scene of a shooting. A search of the vehicle recovered a 9mm handgun, a .38 caliber handgun, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

The homeowner and seven other individuals were in the home at the time of the shooting, but none were injured. The Tarboro Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Peggah B. Wilson handling the prosecution.

Anderson was named in a one-count indictment filed on June 15, 2017, and pled guilty to the charge on September 11, 2017. He was sentenced to 96 months of imprisonment followed by 3 years of supervised release.
