Carjacking Terror in Puerto Rico

On August 25, a nightmarish scene unfolded at Balneario Costa de Oro beach in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Two unsuspecting victims, an adult female and an adult male, were swimming when they noticed individuals near their belongings.

As they returned to shore, two armed males approached them and announced a robbery. The suspects took the victims’ wallets and cell phones, then demanded money, threatening to kill the female victim if she didn’t comply.

The ordeal took a horrific turn when the suspects raped the female victim and forced her to perform oral sex. The male victim was pepper-sprayed in the face before the suspects made off with his vehicle, a white 2000 Jeep Cherokee.

The FBI is investigating the case, which has left a trail of trauma and fear in its wake. If convicted, Randy Rivera-Nevárez and Domingo Emanuel Bruno-Cotto could face up to 25 years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico is leading the prosecution, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Gottfried handling the case.

An indictment contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The carjacking incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and the need for swift justice in cases of violent crime.
