Tampa, FL – In a major blow to the city’s narcotics scene, Raul Carbajal, a 34-year-old Plant City resident, has been sentenced to 17 years and 6 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Carbajal, who pleaded guilty on November 21, 2023, admitted to organizing narcotics deals in the Plant City area, including three separate sales of approximately 1 kilogram of methamphetamine. He also admitted to selling other narcotics, including cocaine.
This is not Carbajal’s first run-in with the law. He was previously convicted in federal court for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine. Two of his co-conspirators, Uriel Rosales Carvajal and Ricardo Heras, were previously sentenced to 7 years and 3 months and 3 years in federal prison, respectively.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Plant City Police Department as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). The OCDETF program uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States.
Carbajal’s sentencing is a significant victory for law enforcement agencies in the region. “This sentence demonstrates the commitment of our office to hold individuals accountable for their role in the opioid crisis,” said Assistant United States Attorney Michael R. Kenneth.
