Ray Alexander Barr, Attempting to Provide Contraband to Prisoners, Texas 2024

Federal authorities arrest prison employee for attempting to provide contraband to inmates

Ray Alexander Barr, a prison employee at the Central Texas Detention Facility – GEO in San Antonio, Texas, was arrested yesterday afternoon for allegedly attempting to provide contraband to an inmate inside the federal detention facility. According to the complaint, Barr, a kitchen supervisor at GEO, asked several inmates if they wanted contraband smuggled into GEO in return for money.

Barr agreed to smuggle alcohol and ICE methamphetamine into the facility in exchange for money. Agents arrested Barr immediately after he accepted payment but before he could smuggle in the contraband.

The case was investigated by deputies with the United States Marshal Service and agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Wannarka is prosecuting this case on behalf of the Government.

If convicted, Barr faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a maximum $250,000 fine. A complaint is merely a charge and should not be considered as evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Barr is scheduled for an initial appearance today. The incident highlights the ongoing struggle to combat corruption and contraband within the prison system.

A thorough investigation into the matter is ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure the safety and security of the facility and its inmates. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
