A convicted felon is facing the consequences of his actions after being sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for possessing a loaded firearm.
Raymond Reeves, 22, of Jacksonville, Florida, was arrested by officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) after he was observed driving recklessly on July 22, 2022.
During the traffic stop, JSO officers arrested Reeves and recovered a loaded 9mm pistol from the floorboard of his car.
Reeves had a prior conviction for armed carjacking and had been released from prison in 2020.
As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
The court also ordered Reeves to forfeit a Taurus 9mm pistol that was used in the offense.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
On May 26, 2021, the U.S. government launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
