On a chilly Omaha night, January 2, 1920, a nationwide federal crackdown on radicals descended upon the city. The Omaha police department and the local United States Department of Justice, led by Sheriff Clark T. H. Daly, executed eight federal warrants to apprehend members of the Communist Party of America and the Communist Labor Party of America. The sting operation, part of a broader effort to rid the nation of perceived threats, netted ten suspects.
