GREENSBORO, NC – Lindsey Hayes, 41, of Reidsville, is headed to federal prison for 10 years after pleading guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition. U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles handed down the sentence today.
The bust stemmed from a January 7th shooting at an apartment complex on Marcellus Street in Reidsville. Cops responded to 911 calls about gunfire and found tenants shaken up, reporting a loud argument preceding the shots. One tenant overheard Hayes yelling threats like, “Watch this,” and “Open this door before I shoot this shit up.”
Surveillance footage paints a clear picture: Hayes arrived in a white SUV, hammered on the door of the mother of his child’s apartment, then returned with a handgun. He used the gun’s handle to bang on the door again. When she didn’t answer, he walked back to his SUV… only to circle back and open fire while driving past the apartment, muzzle flashes clearly visible in the video.
Hayes’ prior felony conviction made even the possession of the ammo illegal. He’ll have three years of supervised release after serving his time.
