Reno Resident Carl Baker Sentenced for Child Pornography

RENO, NV — In a grim reminder of the horrors of child sexual exploitation, 78-year-old Carl Baker was sentenced Monday to 36 months in federal prison for possessing over 600 images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Baker, a resident of Reno, Nevada, admitted between December 11, 2022, and February 14, 2023, to accessing computers and hard drives filled with graphic and disturbing content featuring minors younger than 12 years of age.

In a guilty plea entered in January 2024, Baker confessed to the possession of these despicable images. The sentence handed down by United States District Judge Anne R. Traum also mandates Baker’s registration as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA), ensuring his status is kept current.

The investigation was led by the FBI, with the assistance of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Assistant United States Attorneys Penelope Brady and Richard Casper prosecuted the case with relentless dedication to justice.

This sentencing comes as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse on the internet. The project coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children online and rescue victims from harm’s way.
