A New Jersey congresswoman has been indicted over a fracas outside an ICE jail in Newark, according to a report by New Jersey Monitor.

Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat representing New Jersey’s 11th congressional district, has been charged with disorderly conduct, according to the indictment.

The incident allegedly occurred on March 14, 2024 outside the Essex County Correctional Facility, which houses an ICE detention center.

Sherrill’s office has not commented on the indictment, but the congresswoman has been a vocal critic of ICE and its policies.
