A former US Army soldier has been indicted for discharging a firearm on Fort Hood, a US military base in Texas.
Ricardo Manuele Davila-DeJesus, 28, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Waco, Texas, on February 10, 2021, for aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon.
According to court documents, Davila-DeJesus became intoxicated and got into an argument with several individuals inside the barracks on February 6, 2021. The argument continued outside when Davila-DeJesus pulled out a .45 caliber pistol and discharged his firearm in the direction of a soldier who had retreated back into the barracks.
Other individuals at the scene managed to subdue and disarm Davila-DeJesus.
Davila-DeJesus remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on February 11, 2021, before US Magistrate Judge Jeffrey C. Manske in Waco, Texas.
Upon conviction, Davila-DeJesus faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
It is essential to note that an indictment is merely a charge and should not be considered as evidence of guilt. Davila-DeJesus is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
This case is part of Operation Undaunted, representing federal, state, and local law enforcement’s commitment to combat violence and restore peace to central and west Texas communities. The FBI, together with Fort Hood Military Police Investigations, investigated this case. Special Assistant US Attorney Major Aaron J. Salter is prosecuting this case.
