A San Antonio man has been charged with methamphetamine trafficking after a search warrant at his home uncovered a large stash of the dangerous drug.
Ricardo Mujica-Calderon, a 34-year-old Mexican national, has a long history of violent crime. He had previously been convicted of assault of a family member by choking/strangulation, driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, and two counts of illegal re-entry into the United States.
When agents executed a search warrant at Mujica’s house, he slammed the door shut and fled before being arrested in a neighbor’s yard. Agents found approximately 13 kilograms of methamphetamine in Mujica’s home. They also found an AR-15, two ‘ghost guns,’ and three other pistols, all of which were loaded.
The methamphetamine, worth an estimated $1.3 million, was sold to a confidential source by Mujica. On top of the charges related to the methamphetamine, Mujica is also accused of attempting to escape from authorities while being transported to jail.
Mujica’s past convictions and new charges highlight the ongoing problem of violent crime in Texas. The Western District of Texas, where Mujica was charged, has seen a surge in immigration-related cases in recent weeks.
Between January 9 and January 15, federal prosecutors in the district filed 229 new immigration and immigration-related cases. The district received 125 new habeas petitions, bringing the total number of civil immigration cases to 817 since January 20, 2025.
