Rick Ray Garcia, Meth Trafficking, Montana 2020

Meth Trafficking Lands Bozeman Man Behind Bars

A Bozeman man has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in a meth trafficking operation.

Rick Ray Garcia, 37, was arrested on December 18, 2019, in Gallatin County after a Bozeman law enforcement officer conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, the officer discovered Garcia was wanted on an outstanding warrant, prompting a search of the vehicle and Garcia’s person.

According to court records, the search yielded 9 grams of heroin, 29 grams of methamphetamine, and a loaded 9mm handgun. Garcia has a history of distributing drugs, and the discovery of these illicit substances and firearms further solidified his involvement in the trafficking operation.

Garcia pleaded guilty on February 12 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. On March 24, he was sentenced to five years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen presided over the case.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Bozeman Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer S. Clark prosecuted the case.

Garcia’s sentencing is part of a larger effort to combat methamphetamine trafficking in Montana. The case is tied to Project Safe Neighborhoods, a U.S. initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, federal, tribal, state, and local law enforcement partners focus on violent crime driven by methamphetamine trafficking, armed robbers, firearms offenses, and violent offenders with outstanding warrants.

Garcia’s prison sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those involved in meth trafficking. As the investigation and prosecution of Garcia’s case demonstrate, law enforcement will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these operations.
