OKLAHOMA CITY – Rigoberto Alexander Murillo, 44, of Wichita, Kansas, is facing a barrage of federal charges after allegedly crossing state lines to harass a victim and possessing a cache of illegal weaponry. A federal grand jury returned a five-count indictment yesterday, detailing a disturbing pattern of behavior that culminated in an interstate pursuit and the discovery of modified firearms.
According to the indictment, Murillo traveled from Sedgwick County, Kansas, to McClain County, Oklahoma, on or around August 7, 2023, with the explicit intent to harass someone. He’s also accused of deliberately violating a Kansas protective order designed to keep him away from the victim. The alleged harassment went beyond mere contact; Murillo is charged with removing the victim’s license plate and battery from their vehicle, escalating the situation into a clear act of intimidation.
But the charges don’t stop at stalking. Murillo, already a convicted felon, is accused of illegally possessing firearms. The indictment ′s a laundry list of gun-related offenses, including possession of unregistered firearms and, most alarmingly, two machinegun conversion kits. These kits, authorities say, are designed to modify firearms to fire automatically, turning them into illegal machineguns with a single pull of the trigger.
U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester announced the indictment, emphasizing the severity of the allegations. If convicted of interstate stalking, interstate violation of the protection order, possession of an unregistered firearm, or unlawful possession of a machinegun, Murillo could face up to 10 years in federal prison on each count. The charge of being a felon in possession of firearms carries a potentially longer sentence – up to 15 years behind bars.
The investigation, a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the McClain County Sheriff’s Office, uncovered the alleged pattern of harassment and the illegal firearms. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stan J. West will lead the prosecution, tasked with bringing Murillo to justice for what authorities are calling a dangerous and calculated series of crimes.
Murillo is scheduled to be arraigned in federal court. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it unfolds, providing updates on the proceedings and any further developments. The indictment serves as a stark reminder that crossing state lines to stalk and harass someone, while simultaneously possessing illegal weapons, will draw the full force of federal law.
